The Center for State Policy and Leadership at the University of Illinois Springfield is excited to announce that we and collaboration with Illinois Association of Community Action Agencies; Illinois Head Start Association; United Way of Central Illinois Venture Grant; Springfield School District 186; Southern Illinois University School of Medicine; Women for Women Fund – Community Foundation for the Land of Lincoln; The Paul Simon Public Policy Institute at Southern Illinois University; Hospital Sisters Health System, St. John’s Hospital; The Sangamon County Juvenile Justice Council; and, the Illinois Education Association will be hosting Building Our Children’s Futures: A Multi-Disciplinary Conference to Address and Confront Child Poverty on March 23 – 24, 2017 at the University of Illinois – Springfield.

 

The conference will create a forum that bridges research, application and practice by bringing Central and Southern IL healthcare professionals, K-12 teachers, mental health professionals, law enforcement professionals, early childhood professionals, and social service professionals together with national and state scholars, practitioners, policymakers, service providers and activists in the fields of neuroscience, pediatric medicine, mental health, education, law enforcement and social service to explore:

  • The current research on the damaging effects of poverty on child outcomes.
  • Evidence based prevention – intervention programs and strategies that work.
  • The public policy implications on the damaging effects of poverty on child well-being.
